Sewing a Bohemian Summer Dress with Fuchsia Gold Cotton Fabric: Tips and Patterns

Discover how Céline from Merci pour le Chocolat creates a beautiful summer outfit with PPMC Coton d'Or Fuchsia fabric. Follow her sewing tips, favorite patterns, and ideas for fabric and accessory combinations for unique and cheerful creations.
Inspiration Coton d'Or fuchsia

Hello, I'm Céline from the blog www.mercipourlechocolat.fr and @mpchoco on social networks, and I'm passionate about sewing.

This summer, I fell in love with the PPMC Coton d'Or Fuchsia print: I love its vibrant colors, and the finesse of its floral and bird motifs. It's bright, cheerful and colorful!

I had the pleasure of being able to sew myself an outfit in a beautiful poplin coupon straight out of this collection, and the love affair was confirmed: the fabric is a beautiful quality, a soft 100% Oeko Tex cotton, fine but not transparent, fluid but with hold. All I had to do was put it under my sewing machine!

A dress for this summer?

For sunny days, what could be better than a dress with a bohemian spirit? I wanted length, ruffles and bare arms. My original dress idea ended up being a long skirt + sleeveless top, so I could combine all the possibilities by wearing them together or separately.

For the skirt, I opted for the L'Envoûtante pattern created by Auguste & June: it's very quick and easy to sew, and you can choose the number of ruffles you want. There's no technical difficulty, just a few gathers and an elastic waistband, and you're done. Perfect for beginners.

As for the top, it's not as simple as it looks: it's Atelier Brunette's Le TOP pattern and it's packed with cool little details, like buttons on the sides. The cut is clean and elegant, and the inside finishing is very neat (there's no visible overcasting). I love this pattern so much that I've already sewn 2 more for myself!

Varying pleasures (pattern inspiration)

The great thing about sewing is that with a single fabric, the outfit possibilities are almost endless. Here's a small selection of patterns that would go perfectly with this beautiful Coton d'Or Fuchsia poplin, and rather easy to sew:
  • Tops: Quilla Fibremood top / Arty Maison Essentielle blouse / Monoï Aime comme Marie tank top
  • Bottoms: Singapore Ikatee pants / Pomono Anna Allen shorts / Bliss Lise Tailor skirt
  • Dresses: Cosmos Pretty Mercerie / Céleste I am Patterns / Dancing Queen Chut Charlotte
  • Jumpsuits : Valérie I am Patterns / Danika Fibremood / Safiya Tilly and the Buttons
We're really spoilt for choice, and my selection is far from exhaustive.

Some ideas for fabric combinations

The Coton d'Or Fuchsia print is easy to coordinate with other fabrics in the PPMC collection. Just pick from fuchsia pink, blue, navy blue, gold... Here are a few examples for a successful mix & match:
  • Cotton with fuchsia polka dots
  • Sky Oxford cotton
  • Plain navy cotton
  • Fine Jean cotton

Which PPMC accessories should you wear with your Coton d'Or Fuchsia creations?

You can't go wrong with the various accessories in the Fuchsia collection, which match perfectly. I'm particularly partial to the sequined fuchsia fan, the vintage fuchsia headband, the foulchie...

Navy and gold gauze or navy suedette banana bags will look great worn with a Coton d'Or Fuchsia outfit. The same goes for bowling bags or tote bags in navy bronze bubble and navy silver stripe.

This Coton d'Or Fuchsia print is a real winner, and I'll be wearing it all summer long!
