How to maintain your hair clips?

Would you like some tips on how to maintain your hair clips? How to wash them? Where to store them? Follow Papa Pique and Maman Coud's guide with all the tips to maintain your hair accessories.
Follow our tips to keep as much of your barrettes as possible

Where to store your hair clips ?

You have bought one of our pretty hair clips and you are wondering how to keep them as long as possible?
Although it is very tempting and practical to store your hair clips in the bathroom next to your hairbrushes, you should avoid it at all costs! Moisture and steam can damage and rust the frames more quickly.

The best thing to do is to store your hair clips in our little Vanity, in the closet or dresser in your room.

Also, avoid forgetting the barrettes in purses or pockets or leaving them in the sun!

Extend their life

Like most of our PPMC products, our barrettes are designed to last a very long time and are passed on from generation to generation!
For fabric hair clips, avoid handling them with dirty hands and don't leave them lying around.
Our hair clips are made of metal, so to avoid rusting, do not soak them in water (no showering or swimming with them), do not wear them on wet hair and do not machine wash them!

No machine or dryer!

If despite all your precautions, your hair clip is stained, you can remove the stain with a cloth wet with cold water and a little Marseille soap. Put a cloth soaked in alcohol at 90 degrees on the metal part.
If the stain is resistant, you can try to use a little stain remover (but especially not bleach!) as you would for a cotton garment and dry flat. Remember to dry the metal part immediately

Remove and avoid rust on your hair clips

You forgot a barrette in a pocket and unfortunately it went through the washing machine and the metal part rusted!

No need to panic! We have natural solutions to remove it:
  • Lime and salt
Mix the juice of the lime and the salt, and pour the solution on a cloth that you will pass on the rust
  • Baking soda and vinegar
By pouring vinegar and a tablespoon of baking soda into a cup, make a paste that you will apply with a brush on the rusted areas. Scrub and rinse.
  • Coarse salt and vinegar
Moisten the rusty area with vinegar and coarse salt. When a foam forms, rub vigorously with a sponge, rinse and dry.
  • Potatoes
Potatoes are an excellent rust remover. Simply cut them in half, cover them with dishwashing liquid and leave them for a few hours before using them to scrub the rusty area.
  • Hot vinegar
Heat white vinegar. Wet the rusty area with this solution and wipe it down.
  • Oven cleaner
If you have any oven cleaner left over, you should know that this product is effective in removing rust from your metal objects.
How to avoid rust on your bars in the future ?
You can dip the metal part of your barrette in olive oil to prevent it from rusting or even cover it with clear varnish!

Here are some tips to keep your hair clips for many years...
